Self potrait shot with a Contax RTS II on Kodak Ektar 100.

Hi. My name is Kristen.

Here I am, naked and brooding, a situation I find myself in often. I am an artist and photographer in love with all things analog.

I've been shooting film for over 22 years. I'm drawn to the unexpected and unplanned element of it, which is why a lot of my subject matter includes smoke, water, elements beyond my control.

Waiting for each roll  I develop feels like a present,  I revel in the anticipation of it.

I live to travel.

I used to tour manage bands on the road, so I was lucky to have gotten paid to see the world.  Now, my home base is in Los Angeles, but I am always traveling. Experiencing new places and cultures is like gas in my tank.

My camera of choice is a Hasselblad 503CM, but I love shooting all formats. Pinhole, plastic and field cameras are in regular rotation and shoots film from 110mm to large format and Polaroid.

I would describe myself as a portrait photographer, but am invariably drawn to almost anything that passes through my frame.

Travel and shooting film is what drives me.

If that’s all you ever know about me, it’s enough to say you know me very, very well.
